Focused therapeutic warmth using dried mugwort, often paired with acupuncture.
Moxibustion is a traditional East Asian medicine technique that warms selected acupuncture points using prepared mugwort. Depending on the plan, heat may be applied indirectly with a moxa stick, over a protective medium or with a smokeless warming device.
Patients often choose moxibustion when warmth feels soothing or when an acupuncture plan calls for additional thermal stimulation. The method and intensity are carefully controlled.
Moxibustion is avoided over numb or damaged skin and may not be appropriate for fever, certain inflammatory conditions, smoke sensitivity or impaired heat sensation. Burns are a risk when performed improperly; do not attempt direct moxibustion without trained guidance.

Standalone moxibustion is self-pay. When it is part of an eligible acupuncture visit, any reimbursement remains your insurer’s decision.
